Interpreting the mystic path
If that inner mechanism is not active then the system works in a hit and miss way. The eloquence that results from discourse with a life embracing the multiple facets of the rich jewel that it is becomes an absent friend, a dream, an illusion. The one speed gearbox, like the broken clock, will be right from time to time and those times of rectitude will empower the brittle identity that occasionally hitting the mark gives rise to.
What am I describing? I am describing existential gruel; an existence that is prepared to compromise and accept occasional flashes of brilliance. Instead of being washed by an uplifting stream that enables the bather to flow within its currents – because they are not fixed or limited in the range of their expression – the individual’s interaction with their own life is compromised.
To the person who wants to lead a limited and unexceptional life this is fine. It represents no more than what is. To someone who wants to extract more from their life than a surface skimming this is not nearly acceptable. What is needed is an interlocutor between the deep and profound parts of their being and the habitué of their everyday identity. It is this agent, this go-between that acts as the medium between the different parts of the ensemble or ‘cast of thousands’ that represent the individual throughout their lifetime.
All the main roads in the human journey have been accompanied by the path to transcendence, the way of the magi, the shaman, the mystic. The two desires, the one to satisfy material needs and the one to satisfy the needs of being have interwoven like the polymer ribbons of the DNA helix, inextricably linked and nurturing the other. Those who tread the path of being have always needed such a functionary, an emissary. One who can operate between the states and fulfil the role of interpreter of the various realities associated with different levels of awareness or sensibility. In certain esoteric traditions this has been referred to as the plastic mediator, a linguist whose range encompasses the many tongues of the spirit or the transcendental domain.
In an attempt to codify the estate of being there have been templates handed down according to various traditions, from the oral mythic tradition, to the Pyramid texts via the Kabbalah, the Mahābhārata, Apocrypha of diverse hues to certain sacred writings and texts. What binds them all is the desire to interpret the divine and explain the dominion of the spiritual in a way that allows admission from the physical or the material domain.
A general confusion has come to pass down the centuries whereby the guardians or gatekeepers of the various ways have retained jealously their version of the truth. This has given rise to opposition and conflict, something that I would call ‘the one way sideshow’. This is a matter for the officers of those different disciplines to resolve between themselves should they ever be so inclined but it is not the prerogative of the individual who seeks absolute affinity with the authority of Creation without aligning themselves to the window dressing that has become its unnecessary baggage.
The mediator is within each individual. The path, the way and the truth reside within us all. It is Creation’s greatest gift to allow us to explore its workings that we might become better acquainted with its ways and ourselves become illumined by the process of exploration and knowing. The mystique of the devotional way has been exposed as the illegitimate offspring that millennia of disinformation and seditious undercurrents have fostered.
There has never been a right or a wrong time for the exploration of the spiritual domain. Within its precincts lie the keys to virtuous, and purposeful living, it is the offer of the Universe to us as its interpreters to pursue and explore its realms and become adept in its ways for the benefit of all. This will mean nothing to some, something to others, but to those with whom it chimes and acts as a call to wake up and live then there is no moment like the present. The mechanisms of Creation are vast and diverse and we represent the spark of consciousness that may bring light or understanding into the sterile and dark; true growth is the art of interpreting ourselves and refining our ability to translate and mediate that which we discover and perceive. Upon this platform is our being enhanced and by our actions therein are we magnified and reflected in the will of the Universe to know itself.
